  • Third Annual Springbrook Winter Zen Sesshin

    Monday 24th to Sunday 30th of June 2013
    Presented by Open Way Zen Brisbane Sangha

    The retreat will be led by Peter Genjo Bruza, one of Open Way Zen’s senior teachers, and long time student of Open Way Zen’s founding teacher, Zen master Hogen Yamahata.

    Springbrook can be cold in June, therefore the schedule will focus on zazen (seated meditation) and kinhin (walking meditation). In addition, to meditation practice, there will be work periods (samu), sutra chanting, Dharma talks, as well as breaks for free time.

  • Cairns Mindfulness Retreat

    with Quentin 'Genshu' from Open Way Zen

    Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June

    It will be held at the Buddhist centre and will allow for residential and non residential participants. The retreat will be facilitated by Quentin 'Genshu' who is the lay ordained Zen monk from Open Way Zen. Quentin has been teaching at the centre for some time and would like to give students the opportunity to practice over this period of time to deepen their practice of mindfulness within a retreat setting.

    The retreat will start at 9am on Saturday and finish at 5pm on Sunday

    The retreat will include all meals from lunch on Saturday to afternoon tea on the Sunday. Loose comfortable clothing is preferred. For catering purposes bookings must be made by 24 June via email to info@yuloling.com

    Cost for the retreat is Non Residential: $160 for non members or $140 for members/concession. Please add a further $25 if you wish to stay at the centre for the Saturday night, if you are staying you will need to bring, sheets, towel and toiletries.

  • The Four Foundations of Mindfulness with Quentin Genshu from Open Way Zen - New Course

    Wednesday 15 May to 3 July at 6.30pm (8 weeks)

    The Four Foundations of Mindfulness teaching of this Sutta of the Pali Cannon is the basic teaching for Mindfulness Meditation in the Buddhist literature.

    It teaches meditation on the body, feelings, perceptions and mental states and is the basis for the present day 'Mindfulness' practices. Each week we will focus on one part of the teaching and practice the corresponding meditations and discuss them.

    The Wednesday evenings will begin at 6.30pm and last about one and a half hours starting from 15 May. Quentin has led such meditation evenings previously and the Centre and also held retreats on this in Manus PNG and regards it as being of great importance for deepening one's understanding for building mindful awareness practice as taught in the Sutra on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.

    The cost for the course is $80 for member/concession, $110 non members and $15 per night casual attendance.

  • Cairns meditation evening on the Diamond Sutra

    The Diamond Sutra is one of the important Prajnaparamita Sutras....wisdom that takes you beyond. Another famous Sutra of this grouping is the Heart Sutra.

    The meditation evenings will consists of examination of and reading the Sutra by chapters and then meditating on the implications for ourselves of what has been read.

    The first evening of the 10 weeks course will revise the basics of mindfulness meditation using what was practiced last year during the sessions on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness Sutta.

    The Wednesday evenings will begin at 6.30pm and last about one and a half hours starting on the first Wednesday in March.

    Quentin Genshu has led such meditation evenings previously and the Centre and also held retreats on this Sutra in Manus and regards it as being of great importance for deepening one's understanding and building on the basic mindful awareness practice as taught in the Sutta on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.
